Capsule’s Screen Recorder lets you record your screen directly within Capsule and instantly use it in the editor — no exporting, no re-uploading, and no switching between tools.

Because recordings live inside Capsule, you can immediately edit, caption, polish, and share — keeping your entire video workflow in one place.

Availability: Screen Recorder is currently available on Mac only.

What You Can Create

Use the Capsule Screen Recorder when you want to:

  • Create product demos, walkthroughs, and feature launches

  • Build onboarding, training, and help center videos

  • Share feedback and async updates with visual context

  • Produce sales, support, and customer-facing videos with consistent branding

How to Download Screen Recorder

  1. In Capsule, click the + button to add media

  2. Select Screen

  3. Follow the prompt to download and install the Capsule Screen Recorder app

  4. Once installed, you’re ready to record

Start a Recording

When launching the recorder, you can choose what to capture:

Capture Type

  • Display – Record your entire screen

  • Window – Record a specific application window

  • Area – Record a custom-selected portion of your screen

If recording a Window or Area, you can resize the capture region and lock it to a specific aspect ratio. Easily switch between horizontal, square, or vertical formats to ensure consistent sizing across recordings.

Audio Options

  • Microphone – Record your voice while narrating

  • System Audio – Capture audio playing from your computer (music, videos, other apps)

Choose the audio source that fits your use case. For example:

  • Use Microphone for walkthroughs and tutorials

  • Use System Audio for products involving sounds or media playback

Note: You can select one audio source per recording.

What Happens When You Record

  1. Select your capture type

  2. Choose your audio setting

  3. Click Record

  4. A short countdown begins

  5. Click Stop when finished

The recorder interface is automatically excluded from your capture, so you’ll always get a clean recording — even when capturing your full display.

How to add a screen recording to a project:

Screen recordings behave like any other asset and can be added anywhere media is supported in Capsule. This means base footage in a new project, overlayed on top of an existing video or audio file, or added in with other clips in the timeline.

  1. Click + to add media

  2. Select Screen

  3. Choose your recording from your library

Current Limitations

  • Available on Mac only

  • Camera / talking head recording is not currently supported

  • Screen recordings capture screen content and one selected audio source

What’s Next

Screen Recorder is just getting started. We’re continuing to improve the experience with features like:

  • Automated post-recording cleanup to reduce editing time

  • Built-in annotations

  • Zoom effects to highlight key areas

Feedback is always welcome. As you test out the feature, let us know your thoughts [email protected].
