How do I control the speed of a clip?

Learn how to slow down or speed up any clip in your Capsule video, including footage inside the Screen Recording component.

You can adjust clip speed anywhere from 0.5x (half speed) to 3x (triple speed) using the settings panel on the right side of the editor.

How to change clip speed

  1. Click on the clip you want to adjust in your timeline.

  2. Open the Settings panel on the right side of the screen.

  3. Scroll to the Speed control at the bottom of the panel.

  4. Drag the slider or type a value between 0.5x and 3x.

šŸ’” Tips:

  • Speed control works for uploaded clips and for footage inside the Screen Recording component.

  • Speed up your clips before adding branding or annotations

How to speed up just one section (not the whole clip)

If you only want to change the speed of part of your video, you'll need to clip it first.

  1. Split your clip at the start and end of the section you want to adjust.

    1. The keyboard shortcut Command K or Control K make this fast and easy in pro mode

  2. Select the new clip segment.

  3. Open the Settings panel and adjust the Speed slider.

This leaves the rest of your video at its original speed.

When is speed control useful?

  • Speeding up a long loading screen so viewers don't lose attention

  • Slowing down a fast action to make it easier to follow

  • Trimming the feel of a screen recording without cutting content

Troubleshooting

I don't see the Speed control

Make sure you've clicked directly on a clip to select it. The Settings panel updates based on what's selected. If nothing is selected, the speed option won't appear.

The speed slider isn't moving

Speed can only be set between 0.5x and 3x. Values outside that range aren't supported.
