B-roll is supplemental media (such as images or videos) that you layer on top of your main footage to make your project more engaging. In Capsule, you can add B-roll clips in either Transcript View or Timeline View, and then edit them to match your desired style.

Add B-roll in Transcript View

  1. Highlight the text where you want the B-roll to play over the base footage. This sets the duration of the clip.

  2. Click the Media button.

  3. Select Add Media and choose the image or video you want to use as B-roll.

Once added, the B-roll will automatically align with the highlighted portion of the transcript.

Add B-roll in Timeline View

  1. Scrub (move the playhead) to the point where you want the B-roll to begin.

  2. Click the purple plus (+) sign.

  3. Select the Media button, then choose Add Media to upload your clip.

  4. Trim the B-roll in the timeline to set its duration.

Editing B-Roll

In the B-roll edit settings, you can:

  1. Select the portion of the clip that matches your desired duration

  2. Trim the B-roll footage

  3. Resize the B-roll

  4. Adjust its on-screen position

AI-Generated B-Roll Images

If you don’t have your own media, you can generate images with AI:

  1. Click AI Image in the media options.

  2. Enter a prompt (what you want the image to show) and choose a style.

  3. The AI will create an image that you can use as B-roll in your project.

Tip: Always review your B-roll placement in playback to make sure it aligns with the story you’re telling.
